Today we practiced with FRF dogs in a warehouse area in Hyvinkää. In the first round Merlin seemed to be just on a walk with me, he didn't really know for sure that we were there to search for people. He doesn't yet have any command he would know for this task. The second round he was well tuned to work and knew what he was suppsoed to do even if we were in another warehosue that time. Next time we got a new place I need to try to give him a clue that we are there to search for people, e.g. he can see another dog work before his own turn.

In the morning when I was supposed to leave for the training session early in the morning with a tight schedule, Merlin decided he will not come to the car. He started running around the fields for a good 10 minutes! Sometimes he came a little closer to me, stopped and then rushed away again like shouting: Catch me if you can!
Gosh, it is sooooo irritating when they do that!!

I ended up taking his collar and leash and walking in the opposite direction and waiting until he came to me, praising him and putting the leash on him and calmly taking him to the car. From now on I have to remember to first put him on leash and only then approach the car. I cannot have that foolish running around annoying me happen again.

Keskittynyttä maalimiestyöskentelyä.
"Hello. I am Merlin and I have found you. Do you have a snack for me?"
